Although it’s perhaps a tad colder than it should be at this time of year, we have certainly seen more sunshine through the shop windows at Flowers & Co the last few weeks.
Spring is certainly in the air in Bedminster and we love it.
With May just around the corner and a bumper three-day bank holiday weekend ahead of us it’s time to get out and enjoy some beautiful Hyacinthoides non-scripta, or to give them their more common name bluebells.

Luckily if you live in Bristol, or more specifically the Bedminster area and South Bristol there are some fantastic bluebell woods just a short drive from the city.

One of the best places to spot these gorgeous blue flowers at this time of year is Weston Big Wood, close to Portishead on the outskirts of Bristol. Previously a quarry the woods is now home to wild garlic, daffodils and bluebells.

Heading out of Bedminster along the Winterstoke Road travel down the A369 through Leigh Woods, Abbots Leigh and towards Portishead. Then from Portishead you will be signposted to the woods itself, which is just a short drive.

If you would like to take in some beautiful bluebells but don’t want to travel quite as far, there are also some smaller wooded areas complete with a great number of bluebells at the Ashton Court Estate.

The Ashton Court Estate is again located in South Bristol. Take the same route as above out of Bristol and the estate is signposted from the outskirts of the city.
